What is freesat H.D.?

Freesat is a brand new digital satellite TV service and will be available to almost all households across the UK. For a one-off payment for a digital box, satellite dish and installation, freesat will offer you more than 80 TV channels. If your TV is HD ready,freesat will also give you access to the world of High Definition programmes subscription free!

So why is HDTV better than normal TV?

The clarity and detail in high definition TV really is amazing. HD has up to five times as much detail as standard definition TV, so pictures are more life-like and many programmes will be available with stunning surround sound. To make the most of this, youll need a surround sound system connected to your freesat HD digital box.

What equipment do I need to receive HD service?

ITV HD is only available through freesat, so youll need a satellite dish and either a TV with freesat HD built in (available soon), or a freesat HD digital box connected to an HD Ready TV. Youll need to connect your HD digital box to your HD Ready TV with an HDMI cable (these cost from about £5)

. If I have an H.D.ready television will I automatically be able to watch HDTV?

HD Ready means that your TV is capable of displaying a HD picture, but it doesnt guarantee youll be watching in HD. That's because you need to connect your HD Ready TV to an HD digital box that receives an HD service.

Can I use my existing set-top box?

No, to get ITV HD youll need a freesat digital box or TV with freesat HD built in - look for the freesat logo on the product. Youll also need a satellite dish installed, which we can install as afreesat-approved installer.

Once I own a freesat dish and box, will it cost me extra to receive HD broadcasts?

No! Thats the beauty of freesat: no contract, no subscription, just a one-off payment. Once you have freesat, youll receive all the channels and services, including HD if you have a freesat HD digital box or TV with freesat HD built in.

How much will it cost me to install the dish?

A standard installation which most households will need should be around £99.

What sort of shows will benefit most from the higher quality?

All shows will benefit from the higher quality HD offers. HD really brings pictures to life, so if youre watching sport, youll feel closer to the action.
